Jane Wei-Skillern, PhD and Marty Kooistra

Jane Wei-Skillern, PhD is currently a Senior Fellow at The Center for Social Sector Leadership at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. In her various roles serving on the faculty of Harvard, Stanford, and UC Berkeley’s business schools, she has researched, published, and taught about leading network practices for more than two decades. Currently, she is focused on supporting social impact leaders to apply network leadership to their work. More background about her research can be found here at newnetworkleader.org. Marty Kooistra is a champion of coalition-based work at the intersection of community development, equity, and affordable housing. An avid practitioner of network leadership, He has served many organizations as both executive staff and governing board member, including board leadership roles. When awarded an Archibald Bush Foundation Leadership Fellowship for study at the Joint Center for Housing in the Graduate School of Design and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in the early 2000s, he worked with a kindred spirit, Professor Jane Wei-Skillern. Her research on networked nonprofits struck a chord, and Marty has been sharing the value of, and leadership principles for, networked nonprofits ever since as a partner of Sapwood Advisors.
